Track 6.1. Teaching and learning for a circular economy

Session owner:
Emma Fromberg, TUDelft.

The rise and mainstreaming of the idea of a circular economy requires professionals to engage with their work in a radically different way. This does not only require a new generation of professionals that are about to enter the workforce to master new skills and competencies. Continuing education for the ones already established in the workplace creates an opportunity for the transformation towards a circular economy. This thematic session will explore how teaching and learning will change with the introduction and integration of the idea of a circular economy in formal and informal education and what effect this has on educational institutions. It will include topics such as learning methodology, course and curriculum design, teaching formats, learner engagement, peer-to-peer learning, learning environments, teacher development, etc.

Product lifetimes and the environment asks the question: “how should we design products, economies, lifestyles or sustainability in the future?”. The transition from a linear to a circular economy affects all the dimensions within the scope of the conference. Teaching and learning play a significant role in developing researchers and professionals that can engage in conversations about this transformation and come up with novel and innovative ideas for disrupting the linear discourse.
